Everyone is getting in on library cuts this year, even Governor Cuomo! His budget, labeled “Democracy Agenda” includes yet another year of cuts to State Library Aid. That’s a 5% cut to state aid, and a $20 million cut to capital funding!
What does state aid do, you ask. SO MUCH STUFF. Seriously. It pays for services to the incarcerated, older adults, job seekers, people with disabilities, and English language learners. That’s not even discussing the help with cooperative services like moving holds around, catalog systems, trainings. It does a lot, and libraries use it incredibly efficiently. This is government funding at it’s best, efficient, cooperative and well spent.
